Indoor Games For Kids

1. Puzzle race

Puzzles are a great go-to any time of the year. They are also great to play as a family or individually.

One of our favorite activities to do as a family is to do puzzle races. Everyone gets an age-appropriate puzzle, and at the count of three, the puzzle race begins.

If you have to get things done around the house and can’t join the puzzle race, create a puzzle race or challenge amongst the kids. The more exciting you make it, the more excited they will be to participate.

2. Board games

Board games are a great indoor activity for kids. If you have more than one child they can play together, otherwise, you can join the fun.

Yes, you can opt for Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, or Candy Land. But, if you want to double up on the fun consider one of these popular board games the entire family can enjoy:

5. Treasure hunt

This indoor activity is another family favorite. The possibilities are endless with a treasure hunt as you can be as creative as you wish. Pick a handful of things that will make great “treasures”:

  • Toys around the house
  • Snacks

  • Easter Eggs
  • Small toy prices (keeping a handful of these are is a great idea for future activities and prices)

6. Easter egg games

Leftover Easter eggs make for great entertainment. If you gave any plastic eggs laying around the house or stored away you are in luck. Here are 7 fun games to play with leftover Easter Eggs.

When I was younger, card games were a big part of our indoor activities. Although there are many more indoor entertainment options for kids these days, card games are still a great choice.

Here are some popular card games for kids of all ages:

8. Red Light, Green Light

Another fun and simple game is Green Light, Red Light. It requires no materials and kids of all ages can play.

Instructions: Have all kids stand next to each other in a straight line. Stand across the room and say, “green light”. At your command, all kids can “walk” forward. When you say, “red light” all kids must stop at once. Whoever is still moving after the “red light” command must go back to the starting line. The child who makes it to the finish line first wins.

9. Plastic cups bowling

Bowling is such a fun thing to do, and kids of all ages love to do it. If you have a children bowling playset is time to put it to good use.

If you don’t, no worries. Set up a plastic cup pyramid and allow your kids to take turns knocking down the cups with a medium size ball. In our case, we used these recycled Mac and Cheese bowls I have been saving for the last few months.

The only rule, no tape can come off the wall.

12. Bean bag toss

The bean bag toss is another family favorite AND is a great game for school-age skills to practice adding as they will be doing so to count their final score. No need to have the bean bag toss game to enjoy this game, you can make your own version.

Tape 6 construction papers on the floor (different colors), with 3 different scores. If you don’t have anything that resembles a bean bag, simply make your own with a small piece of fabric, beans, needle, and thread.

13. Bean bag basketball

If you took on making your own bean bag for the previous activity, you can also use it to play this homemade indoor game.

Simply, place a laundry basket, or a toy cubby across the room and have the kids take turns to toss the bean bag. Whoever makes the most bean bag shots in 10 tries, wins the game.

14. Activity cube

The activity cube is a super fun and versatile activity. It allows you to change the activities on the cube based on your child’s age and activity preference. Your cube activities can include anything from exercises to math questions.

How to make the activity cube: The easiest way to make an activity cube is to find a small (squared) cardboard box around the house and wrap it in gift wrapping paper. The pantry is a great place to look. Then, attach your activity papers to each side of the box.
